Is self-love the key to life?
It's the unconditional support and compassion you give yourself that ultimately translates to good health, great self-esteem, happiness, total balance and well-being. Self-love is a basic necessity, a fundamental positive value that leads to inner peace and happiness.

Self-love is important because it motivates much of our positive behavior while reducing harmful behavior. It both empowers us to take risks and to say no to things that don't work for us. Because the relationship you have with yourself is the only truly life-long relationship, self-love is the most important love of your life. Why is it important? Because you can't share healthy love with others until you love yourself. You may feel love for others, but you may not be able to express it without fear.
Learning to take care of your heart, to accept the pain that comes with seeing the people you love suffer, and to be okay with suffering yourself, is the true work of self-love—and it begins with the breath.
God Wants You to Love Yourself, Too
God does not want us to go through our lives filled with hate, disappointment, or insecurities about ourselves. God has created us perfectly in His image. In this day and age, it is difficult not to compare ourselves to others or the idea of what we should look like.

People lacking self-love may treat their mental and physical health poorly. They may skip meals or overeat. Additionally, they may not take time for themselves and work on building their happiness. In some cases they may turn to alcohol and other substances to cope with their feelings.

On a deeper level, self- love includes having a higher regard for your own well-being. Self-love looks like trusting yourself, asserting boundaries and an overall deeper connection to yourself, which in turn can connect you with others.
